Scotch Plains-Fanwood Soccer Association Travel Program is a competitive program where players are ranked against other players and teams are determined by those rankings. Tryouts occur each April for the upcoming soccer year starting in September.
The Travel Program Committee strives to provide the best possible environment for each individual player to learn, succeed and have fun. This means that your child could be moved from their current team to another, have a coaching change or be recommended to pursue soccer through other options offered in SPFSA. All these decisions are made throughout the tryout process and are influenced by the quality and quantity of players available. Input from current coaches is also relied upon when making player placement decisions.
It is not an easy process and we realize it can be stressful for both players and parents. All decisions made for the program are decided upon by a 9 member travel committee. If you have concerns on where your child stands on their current team, please do not hesitate to speak to their coach.
Projected fees for 2019-20 season are between $1,150 and $1,450.

Travel Tryouts / Free Play
SPFSA has set Spring Tryout dates for teams to be formed in Fall 2019, and we are also excited to unveil our new process of talent identification, Free Play. Free Play is intended to offer a less stressful environment for the players to be evaluated, which we hope will lead to better and more natural performances. Additionally, there will be four Free Play sessions, rather than the traditional two Tryouts, and they will be held outside of the normal practice sessions, which have tended to disrupt the teams already in season. It is strongly advised that all current and interested players attend all four Free Play sessions, but the added number of sessions will also allow players to still be identified even if they cannot attend all four.
