Overview

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Soccer Club consists of four primary Programs.  The combination of these Programs provide an opportunity for all young players of any skill level to compete and enjoy the beautiful game of soccer.

 

 

The Junior Recreation Program

Players born in 2011 through 2017 - (U4 - U10)

SPFSC's introduction to soccer starts with our Junior REC program. Starting with the U4 Division, up to our U10 rosters. We offer a fun, competitive, and learning experience.  Our program uses a mixture of relying on volunteer coaches as well as paid trainers.  Read more...

 

The Senior Recreation Program

Players born in 2010 through High School age - (U11 - High School)

Beginning in the Fall 2017, the SPFSC Intercounty Program established a new league with other neighboring towns such as Cranford, Westfield and Clark. The new league – Suburban Youth Soccer League, or SYSL – replaced our club’s participation in the Intercounty Youth Soccer League.  Read more...

 

The Diamond Academy

Players born in 2013 and 2014 - (Transitional / U7 & U8)

The Diamond Academy Program is a technically focused training program designed to prepare players who are turning 7 or 8 for the next level of soccer.  Games will be run by the trainers.  Read more...

 

The Travel Program

Players born in 2012 through High School - (Competitive / U9 - High School)

The SPF Soccer Club Travel Soccer is a selective program designed to teach the player (boys & girls) to play the game of soccer and compete at as high a level as possible.  Professional coaching uses a curriculum that takes a player through a training progression focused on learning the game. Read more...

Junior Recreation - U4 Division

  • SPF Soccer Club's introduction to soccer starts with our Junior Recreation Program. Starting with the U4 Division and going up to the U10 Division, we offer a fun and competitive environment combined with a robust learning experience. The program instruction is provided by paid trainers as well as volunteer coaches.
  • Junior REC U4 Division is for players turning 4 in 2021.
  • Format: This is a clinic format division with no teams, no games, and a once weekly 30-minute practice. The intent is to introduce players to organized sport and activity with a focus on the ABC's: Agility, Balance and Coordination.
  • Tryouts: No tryouts - all who want to play will play
  • Practices: Once per week on Friday afternoons for 30 minutes; led by professional trainers.
  • Games: There are no games at this age level.
  • Fall Season: ~10 weeks
  • Winter Season: n/a
  • Spring Season: ~10 weeks
  • Summer Season: n/a
  • Registration Options: Full year, Fall only, Spring only

Junior Recreation - U5 Division

  • SPF Soccer Club's introduction to soccer starts with our Junior Recreation Program. Starting with the U4 Division and going up to the U10 Division, we offer a fun and competitive environment combined with a robust learning experience. The program instruction is provided by paid trainers as well as volunteer coaches.
  • Junior REC U5 Division is for players turning 5 in 2021.
  • Format: Games are 3v3 Coed teams with no goal keeper, 90' X 60' field and pop-up goals. The focus of this division is to introduce players to team sport and soccer fundamentals.
  • Tryouts: No tryouts - all who want to play will play
  • Practices: Once per week on Friday afternoons for 30 minutes; led by professional trainers, supported by volunteer coaches.
  • Games: The games are every Saturday morning for 1 hour, and include 30 minutes of professional trainer instruction followed by 30 minutes of volunteer coach-led play.
  • Fall Season: ~10 weeks
  • Winter Season: n/a

  • SPF Soccer Club's introduction to soccer starts with our Junior Recreation Program. Starting with the U4 Division and going up to the U10 Division, we offer a fun and competitive environment combined with a robust learning experience. The program instruction is provided by paid trainers as well as volunteer coaches.
  • Junior REC U6 Division is for players turning 6 in 2021.
  • Format: Games are 4v4 gender-specific teams with no goal keeper, 90' X 60' field and pop-up goals. Players begin to focus on individual skills.
  • Tryouts: No tryouts - all who want to play will play
  • Practices: Once per week on Monday or Wednesday afternoons for 45 minutes; led by professional trainers, supported by volunteer coaches.
  • Games: The games are every Saturday morning for 1 hour, and include 20 minutes of professional trainer instruction followed by 40 minutes of volunteer coach-led play.
  • Fall Season: ~10 weeks

Diamond Academy - U7 Division

  • The Diamond Academy Program is a technically focused training program designed to prepare players for the next level of soccer. The small sized games will provide better ratios for player’s time on the ball with the idea of continuous play. Players develop quicker as they are forced into a multitude of decision making moments in every practice and game. The trainers take the curriculum material and provide the teachable moments for the players to execute their technical skills in the game situations. The majority of Diamond Academy players have gone seamlessly into travel and the level of the travel teams has increased exponentially. You can expect a positive, dynamic learning environment where players are pushed to improve, but where they are encouraged to have fun at the same time. Your child will see a huge improvement in their technical ability as a result of the Diamond Academy.
  • Diamond Academy U7 Division is for players turning 7 in 2021.
  • Format: Games are 4v4 with no goal keeper; field size: 75' X 105'; goal size: 4' x 4'; game time: 45 minutes; game coordination: trainers.
  • Practices: Twice per week for 1 hour; Trainer run
  • Games: Every Saturday morning for 1 hour, Trainer instructed, helped by volunteers
  • Fall Season: ~10 weeks
  • Winter Season: Optional 8 week indoor season (additional cost)
  • Spring Season: ~10 weeks
  • Summer Season: Optional 8 week summer session (additional cost)

  • Games: There is usually a game every weekend during the Fall and Spring seasons

  • The Senior Recreation Program competes in the Suburban Youth Soccer League (SYSL). SYSL is a semi-recreational league and is comprised of member clubs from the suburban New Jersey footprint of Union, Middlesex, Essex, and Somerset counties. The league offers high quality, flighted competition ranging from the purely recreational athlete through to more competitive players that cannot make a full-time commitment to a travel soccer program.
  • For players turning 11 in 2021.
  • Format: Games are 8v8 with goal keeper on a small-sided field. Games last approximately 1 hour.
  • Tryouts: No tryouts - all who want to play will play
  • Practices: Once per week for 1.5 hours; parent volunteer run. Optional weekly trainer led group sessions.
  • Games: Games are normally on Saturday and Sundays, occasionally can be played during the week.
  • Fall Season: ~10 weeks
  • Winter Season: n/a
  • Spring Season: ~10 weeks

Senior Recreation - U15 Division

  • The Senior Recreation Program competes in the Suburban Youth Soccer League (SYSL). SYSL is a semi-recreational league and is comprised of member clubs from the suburban New Jersey footprint of Union, Middlesex, Essex, and Somerset counties. The league offers high quality, flighted competition ranging from the purely recreational athlete through to more competitive players that cannot make a full-time commitment to a travel soccer program.
  • For players turning 14 or 15 in 2021.
  • Format: Games are 11v11 with goal keeper on a regulation sized 11v11 field. Games last approximately 1.5 hours.
  • Tryouts: No tryouts - all who want to play will play

Professional coaching uses a curriculum that takes a player through a training progression focused on learning the game. Travel is for the player that demonstrates the potential and the commitment to the game and their team. The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Travel Program is competitive.
