Junior Recreation Program - Overview
Registration for the Spring Season, 4/7 - 6/14, is open. All U4 and U5 players MUST register again. This is an entirely new season. Register early to guarantee a roster spot.
There are limited spots available for new players to register for the Spring ‘25 season to help fill out the remaining rosters for each team in our U6, U8 and U10 divisions. Families who registered in the Fall DON’T NOT HAVE TO REGISTER AGAIN for the Spring Season as their registration included both the Fall ‘24 and Spring ‘25 season. SPFSC's introduction to soccer starts with our Junior Recreation Program. Junior Recreation provides divisions tailored to the specific age ranging from Under-4 (U4) to Under-10 (U10). The mission of our Junior Recreation program is to instill a joy of physical activity by providing safe and developmentally sound experiences to a healthy lifestyle and the sport of soccer. Our program uses a mixture of relying on volunteer coaches as well as paid trainers to provide the best training to our children.
Each year there are 2 seasons: the Fall season goes from September to November; the Spring season goes from April to June. Each division in Junior Recreation will practice once per week with professional trainers, and all divisions from U5-U10 will play one game a week on Saturday mornings.
U4 Division - Birth Year 2021
Our U4 Division (players born in 2021 for the Fall '24/Spring '25 year) is entering its fifthyear this year. The focus of this division is to introduce players to organized sport through soccer with a focus on the "ABCs": Agility, Balance and Coordination! There are no teams in this division as the focus is on the individual. Practices, run by professional trainers, take place once a week for 30 minutes on Friday afternoon at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00 or 5:30. Players are required to bring a Size 3 soccer ball with their name on it. Soccer cleats, shin guards, and water bottle (with name on it) are optional. Players will be provided a SPFSC T-Shirt. Registration options: Fall only, Spring only.
U5 Division - Birth Year 2020
Our U5 Division (players born in 2020 for the Fall '24/Spring '25 year) is SPFSC's first introduction to team sports for our youngest players. Thirty-minute practices, focusing on soccer fundamentals, are run by professional trainers and helped by volunteer coaches each week on Friday afternoons. The rosters consist of a maximum of 12 players across Coed teams. Each Saturday will be a "game day" including 15 minutes of professional trainer instruction followed by 30 minutes of volunteer coach-led 3v3 play. The focus is for the players to have fun and be their first introduction to team sport. Players are required to bring a Size 3 soccer ball (with their name on it), and wear soccer cleats and shin guards. A water bottle (with name on it) is suggested. Registration options: Fall only, Spring only.
U6 Division - Birth Year 2019
Our U6 Division (players born in 2019 for the Fall '24/Spring '25 year) teams practice once per week for 45 minutes and play a game every Saturday morning. Game days will include 15 minutes of professional trainer instruction followed by 30 minutes of volunteer coach-led play. The practice sessions are run by our professional trainers with support from volunteer coaches, and begin to focus on individual skills. Unlike our U5 Division, genders are divided for the first time with Girls and Boys playing in separate divisions. Additionally, play continues as 3v3 matchups and teams will still have a maximum of 12 players rostered. Players are required to bring a Size 3 soccer ball (with their name on it), and wear soccer cleats and shin guards. A water bottle (with name on it) is suggested. Registration options: Full year or Spring only.
U8 Division - Birth Year 2018 & 2017
Our U8 Division (players born in 2018 and 2017 for Fall '24/Spring '25 year) teams practice once per week for 45 minutes, and play a game every Saturday morning. Like our U6 Division, practice sessions are run by professional trainers with support from volunteer coaches, but we begin to delve deeper into individual skill building, and begin to introduce game play positioning. Game days are completely led by volunteer coaches in a 4v4 play environment. Players are required to bring a Size 3 soccer ball (with their name on it), and wear soccer cleats and shin guards. A water bottle (with name on it) is suggested. Registration options: Full year or Spring only.
U10 Division - Birth Year 2016 & 2015
In our U10 Division (players born in 2016 and 2015 for Fall '24/Spring '25 year), players are introduced to small-sided 7v7 play with the addition of goalkeepers, referees, and increased rules. Each team practices once a week in a professional trainer-led, volunteer coach supported 45-to-60-minute session that will continue to build deeper individual skills with a focus on game play positioning and teamwork. Game days are completely led by volunteer coaches. Players are required to bring a Size 4 soccer ball (with their name on it), and wear soccer cleats and shin guards. A water bottle (with name on it) is suggested. Each Spring, we hold our Junior Recreation MLS Cup Tournament to end the year! Registration options: Full year or Spring only.
